Should it be a career wrap for Mariah Carey?

Singer Mariah Carey's fans have criticised her vocal performance following a concert in Japan. Some fans feel it's time for her to retire, while others felt it proved why she refrains from performing live.

The `Hero` hitmaker was mocked by her fans on social networking site Twitter after her performance during Elusive Chanteuse World Tour in Tokyo Saturday, reports dailymail.co.uk.

One Twitter user, Elle, posted: `It's a wrap for Mariah Carey's singing career. You're a legend. Time to retire. She can't sing anymore. At all. What happened?`

Another user, tweeted after seeing the video of the event: `Y'all. Mariah Carey really can't sing anymore. That was hard to listen to. I see why Mariah Carey never sings live anymore.

"That's why Mariah Carey should've bowed out right when her voice was giving out. Save herself the embarrassment. I knew it was something wrong with MC though. No artist lip syncs at EVERY show.`

The 44-year-old singer also appeared to struggle with her microphone when singing `We belong together`, with the butterfly decal detaching from the mic.

She attempted to continue uninterrupted with the song, though halted and said, `Wait a minute. I can't go on.`

However, some fans thoroughly enjoyed Carey's gig, with Abby tweeting: `I just had the absolute best time at @MariahCarey#TheElusiveChanteuseShow #Tokyo Def a night to remember!!!!`

A representative for the star says that they've only received good reviews from people who attended the opening show.
